In Good Company

A hobby club where you swap skills with new people and leave with real friends.

Teach something you love, learn something you’ve been curious about, and meet people who showed up to meet you too. No cliques, no pressure, and no need to bring a friend.

Friends are easier to make when there’s something to do

Most clubs are built around one interest, and most are full by the end of freshman year. In Good Company is built for everyone who’s new to the crowd: sophomores, juniors, transfers, and anyone who just moved off campus. Everyone comes ready to meet people, and most come on their own.

Teach anything, even something small

A skill doesn’t have to be impressive. If you can show it in 15 minutes, it counts.

Questions and answers

Do I need to bring a friend?

No. Most people come alone, and we’ll tell you that in advance. You’ll be paired with a partner as soon as the swap starts.

What if I’m not good at anything?

You’re good at more than you think. Anything you can show in 15 minutes works, from a knot to a coffee brewing trick.

How much does it cost?

Our first event is free and comes with snacks and drinks. Later events will be low-cost, about $5 to $20 for a one- to two-hour session.

What happens at an event?

We start with check-in and a quick warm-up in small groups, then two 15-minute skill swaps, a short show-and-tell, and open hangout time.

Do I need to be a Cal Poly student?

For now, yes. We’re starting with Cal Poly students, especially sophomores, juniors and transfers, and we plan to open up to more young adults in San Luis Obispo.

What if I don’t click with my partner?

You’ll swap with one person, then everyone mingles. You’ll meet several people over the afternoon, so one pairing is never the whole event.

Still have a question?

Ask us anything, suggest a skill you’d like to see taught, or tell us about a venue or food spot that wants to partner with us.
